FVX Series: Debut of six new machines as X-Pump equipped hybrid type large-sized injection molding machines

Nissei Plastic Industrial has recently developed six new machines that comprise the FVX Series as X-pump equipped hybrid type large-sized injection molding machines combining the key characteristics of an electronic and hydraulic type machine.
The six newly developed machines are - the FVX560-210L and FVX560-310L with clamping force of 5,500 kN (560 tons), the FVX660-310L and FVX660-400L with clamping force of 6,390 kN (660 tons), and the FXV860-400L and FVX860-600L with clamping force of 8,410 kN (860 tons).
The key characteristic of Nissei's hybrid-type molding machines is the "Hybrid X-Pump System" that adopts the innovative X-pump. This "Hybrid X-Pump System" combines servomotor drive technology and hydraulic drive technology as the driving source for the injection molding machine, and it is totally different from standard hybrid systems. By controlling the rotation of the servomotor, the motor provides driving power only when required (it stops when not required).
As a result, up to an approximately 45% reduction in energy consumption is possible for the FVX660 compared with conventional Nissei hydraulic machines. Hence, the hydraulic oil consumption is reduced by approximately 10% in the same way as well. Furthermore, compared with conventional hydraulic machines, energy efficiency has been greatly improved and for this reason, the rise in the temperature of the hydraulic oil is suppressed and cooling water requirements are thereby reduced. As a result, reductions in cooling water facility (such as cooling towers) expenses as well as maintenance costs are possible.
In addition, the following injection performance improvements compared with conventional hydraulic machines have been materialized.
| 1. |
Injection rise time of 30 ms represents a high response. |
| 2. |
Ultra-low speed/low pressure range improvements difficult in hydraulic machines have been materialized. |
|
| -1 |
The lowest operation velocity and resolution in low velocity range have been improved compared to the conventional hydraulic machines (the lowest control velocity 0.5 mm/s). |
| -2 |
The lowest control pressure and resolution in low pressure range have been improved compared to the conventional hydraulic machines (the lowest control pressure 0.3MPa). |
|
| 3. |
"High-pressure + long-sustained" injection holding pressure performance difficult to achieve with electric machines has been materialized (100% holding pressure sustained for 60 seconds possible). |
| 4. |
Through employing servomotor drive, equivalent level of low noise operation as all-electric types is achieved. |
| 5. |
Maintenance-free operation, lower failure rate, and longer operation life have been materialized. |
The major attributes of the clamping mechanism are:
| 1. |
Simultaneous motion of ejector operation during mold opening is possible. |
| 2. |
High-rigidity direct-pressure clamping method with outstanding durability is adopted. |
| 3. |
Open stopping position has been significantly improved. |
|
| -1 |
Fluctuation in mold open stopping position improved (preventing take-out errors by fluctuation range improvement of up to 37%). |
| -2 |
Low pressure clamping function enhanced by improved overrun against stopping position setting (mold protection function). |
| -3 |
Mold open stopping position almost unaffected by changing mold opening speed. |
|
| 4. |
Low (optimal) setting of clamping force is easily possible, and this is effective in terms of saving energy, prolonging the life of the molding machine and molds, and countering defects caused by degassing and short shots, etc. |
| 5. |
It is effective for thick molds (deep well molding, hot runners, and three plate). |
The exclusive controller "TACT" functions as a human-machine interface that employs a color liquid crystal display and features a tilt mechanism whereby the viewing angle can be changed to match the operator's height. The main attributes are: The dedicated NC21 Controller employs a bright and easy-to-read liquid crystal display and parameter setting is by way of a touch panel. An easy-to-operate selector switch is also employed.
The machine comes prepared with three types of mold movement: single-stage, slide, and turntable, and these can be selected depending on the application.
The X Pump System was developed in the fall of 2004, and was awarded the "Director General of the Agency of Natural Resources and Energy Award," which was presented at the "2006 (27th) Implementation of Energy Conserving Machinery Awards" by The Japan Machinery Federation. It is a hybrid-type molding machine based on Nissei's original new concept that is totally different from traditional hybrid-type molding machines.

MOKON ANNOUNCES REFRIGERANT CHANGEOVER TO GREEN-FRIENDLY R-407C
As a global provider and part of Mokon's green-friendly initiative, we are now offering R-407C refrigerant in our line of Iceman portable and central chiller systems for North America and global business opportunities. R-407C is an environmentally-friendly refrigerant that contains no ozone-depleting properties.
Mokon's selection of R-407C is based on a refrigerant that has similar properties, characteristics and pressure ratings to that of R-22 and also has one of the lowest Global Warming Potential (GWP) values, which may be governed by the Environmental protection agency in the near future. R-407C has been the accepted refrigerant in Europe for many years, due to its reliable performance, compatibility and non-chlorine containing properties.
With the mandated phase-out of R-22 by the United States government in January 2010, the operation of existing chillers with R-22 will become more costly due to limited production supplies after 2010 and will only be available for use in servicing pre-existing systems. The use of R-407C will not require major component changes or system overhauls when retrofitting our existing line of Iceman portable and central chillers. A change of compressor oil, evacuation, review of component capacities, and a re-charge with R-407C will be all that's necessary for start up, making R-407C the accepted R-22 replacement refrigerant.
Mokon offers a complete line of Iceman portable chiller systems for process cooling requirements down to 5F (-15C). Mokon's line of portable chillers is available from 1/4 ton up to 35 ton cooling capacities in air-cooled or water-cooled condensing. In addition, combination heating and cooling systems, dual circuit capacity control systems from 10 tons to 40 tons, and outdoor air-cooled scroll systems are also available. Mokon's Iceman central chillers supply process fluid control down to 20F (-6C) in 30 to 120 ton cooling capacities. The central chillers are available in single or dual circuit configurations, air-cooled or water-cooled condensing, and scroll or semi-hermetic discus compressors.

Spirex News

Spirex, a global leader in plasticating systems solutions, and Twinshot Technologies, the developer of a process that converts a conventional molding machine into a co-injection machine, have entered into an agreement that makes the retrofit technology available to markets worldwide.
The exclusive, international licensing agreement signed by the two ISO 9001-certified companies allows Spirex to manufacture, market and install Twinshot co-injection technology to existing standard injection molding machines in markets around the world. Converting a conventional machine into a multi-material molder can result in production cost savings of thousands of dollars a month. The cost savings just in terms of the capital expense that is eliminated are significant — a retrofitted machine is estimated to cost about 25 to 50 percent less than a comparable-sized coinjection machine with dual injection units. And with Twinshot, the retrofit is about as simple as making a barrel change.
There are a number of other reasons to consider converting a standard injection molder to Twinshot. The Twinshot co-injection technology enables molders to:
- Reduce resin costs by 25 percent…or more
- Make use of off-spec and regrind materials
- Encapsulate a lower-cost resin within a higher-cost UV inhibitor or colorant
- Use less energy
- Enjoy simpler set-up and lower operational complexity
- Reduce maintenance costs
- Use less floor space
- Use a nozzle configuration that is completely standard
- Easily convert back to single-material mode (simply supply the same material to both feed hoppers)
"Our agreement with Twinshot enables us to provide a complete and cost-effective co-injection molding system to processors around the world," says Spirex President Paul T. Colby. "As the exclusive worldwide provider of the Twinshot technology, we can bring co-injection within easy reach of anyone using a standard injection molding machine."
Spirex is a worldwide leader in designing and manufacturing complete plasticating systems that include screws, front-end components and barrels for injection molding, extrusion and blow molding. Headquartered in Youngstown OH, the company also remanufactures plasticating components; offers complete laboratory services, including rheology and melt flow analysis; online optical dispersion testing; lab trials; and training programs. Visit Spirex at www.spirex.com.
Twinshot Technologies is a business unit of Rifton NY-based Community Enterprises, LLC. In addition to developing and marketing the Twinshot co-injection process, the company also produces educational play equipment and specialized equipment for children with disabilities. For more than a decade, the company has processed its own injection molded parts.
